The Pakistan Marines (Urdu: پاکستان سمندریوں); English IPA: pɑkʰ məriːniz (or/ simply Marines Urdu: سمندریوں); reporting name PM), is an expeditionary and naval warfare uniform service branch of the Pakistan Navy that consists of active duty, high-ranking officers and other personnel of the Navy. The Pakistan Marines are responsible for providing force projection from the sea, using the mobility of the Pakistan Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. Established in 1990, it is estimated to comprise about 2,000 active-duty personnel from the Navy, with plans to grow to brigade strength by 2015.
The Special Service Group (SSG) (Urdu: خصوصی خدمات انجمن) is the primary special operations force of the Pakistan Army. The SSG is a regiment-sized unit, and is headquartered at Tarbela Cantonment. It is headed by a major-general and divided into eight battalions. Each battalion consists of 700 men in four companies, with each company split into platoons and then into 10-man teams. Each battalion is commanded by a lieutenant colonel.
The Special Services Group Navy, (Urdu: خصوصی خدمات انجمن بحریہ) or Special Service Group Navy codename SSG(N), are the Pakistan Navy's elite principal special operations force component.Together with the special forces of the air force, army and naval marines, they form the Pakistan Special Operations Command (P-SOC) under the joint administrative control of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Pakistan Defence Forces. The SSG(N) are trained to conduct sea-air-land incursion, counter-terrorism, naval intelligence gathering, hostage rescue, and boarding. The SSG(N) are deployed on a wide variety of missions, including direct action and special reconnaissance, unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, and other missions. All SSG(N) personnel are male, active-duty members of the Pakistan Navy. The details of most SSG(N) missions are highly secretive, and the identities of operatives are kept classified.
The Special Service Wing (SSW), codename the SS Wing, or previously known as 312th Special Service Wing or Maroon berets, is a special operations aerospace unit of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The SS Wing or Maroon Berets are an elite, special operations force based on the United States Air Force's Special Tactics Squadrons and the United States Army Rangers. The SSW is a new military division of the Special Forces Command of the Pakistan Armed Forces. The division has recently been revived and is fielding between 800 and 1200 troops.
