In a shocking incident that turns the spotlight once again on decrepit healthcare services, a man in India’s Kalahandi district of Odisha had to carry the body of his deceased wife for nearly 12 km on his shoulders after he failed to obtain a hearse or an ambulance from the hospital despite requesting authorities as he was short of money. As can be seen in the video, his teenaged daughter sobs by his side as Dana Majhi takes his wife Amangadei’s body wrapped in old sheets from the bed at the hospital in Bhawanipatna town, adjusted her on his shoulders and started walking towards his home in Melghar village, about 60 km away. She had passed away after a battle with tuberculosis. According to sources, Majhi had walked for almost 12 km.
